NGWFC part ways with Tom Gavran

The committee of North Geelong Warriors FC wishes to announce that it has parted ways with 2023 NPL Men’s Head Coach, Tom Gavran.

Tom stepped in and took the reigns after the resignation of Stuart Begg earlier in the season and hit the ground running.

After a transition period and some quick adapting, Tom was able to steer the young brigade through injury crisis, personnel changes and new player recruitment. Under Tom’s reign the team was able to build in confidence and start picking up points in bursts through the remainder of the season, to keep the side with a chance of top flight survival right up to the last day of the season.

Although the points on the board tell one story, the other side of that is a testament to Tom and his approach to the club’s mission of promoting from within, seeing no less than nine players from the Under 18s and Under 21s make senior debuts. We’re sure they are better prepared for what may come their way in years to come as a result of the season just experienced.

We sincerely thank Tom Gavran for his commitment and perseverance through trying times, to give the job the utmost attention and professionalism, Tom is a terrific person who will no doubt be a valuable asset to the next club or project he gets stuck into.

We wish you all the very best Tom.

We are game changers

North Geelong Warriors FC is proud to have achieved its first level of the Club Changer Program.

This enables our soccer club with a strategy and action plan, supported with resources to build on our future.

The club is committed to its own development amongst the development it enables for players, coaches and support crews.

With the backing of the Club Development Network we will have first and exclusive access to resources, information, webinars and events to support our growth and continue our alignment with Football Australia’s ambitious goal of achieving 50:50 gender parity in 2027, equating to the attraction and retention of over 400,000 more female participants nationwide.

Free heart health checks at Elcho Park (9 July game day) with Heartbeat of Football

Sunday 9th of July is not only a huge day of football at Elcho Park with several Junior matches being hosted as well as Men’s NPL Round 21 action vs sister club Melbourne Knights. The club is also playing host to former Football Media personality and now CEO and Founder of Heartbeat of Football – Andy Paschalidis.

We recognise the importance of good health being a provider of community and sporting activity, however we also wish to ensure our region and the football family is able to keep on top of their health. Heart related incidents and issues are leading causes of death in Australia and we can do a lot to get ahead of the issues by being informed of our key measures.

Heartbeat of Football like North Geelong Warriors doesn’t wish for anyone to not make it to or from the sporting field due to factors they can control. By measuring our Cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar we can keep on top of things with better awareness.

Join us on Sunday 9th July for a day of football, fun chats with Andy Paschalidis and heart health checks.

Our Hub Heroes

Thank you to our Hub Heroes!

We were privileged to host 32 junior teams on two occasions last month as the Miniroos Hubs came to Elcho Park.

Both days were great fun, made possible because of the incredible planning by our junior committee and tireless work by our volunteer army.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Hubs a success!

We need you! As our senior men embark on the second half of the NPL1 season

As the Senior men’s team progress to the 2nd half of their season the coaching staff and players would like to thank all sponsors, members and supporters who have stayed on the journey throughout the year thus far. The club understand we are not in the position we want to be in but are optimistic with what lies ahead and confident we will get points required to consolidate ourselves in this league.

Under the guidance of recently appointed head coach Tomi Gavran and his staff the team has made some vast improvements in the past 6 weeks and look forward to the challenges that present in the coming months.

We are calling on all NGWFC supporters to make their way to Elcho Park this Saturday and cheer for the ‘Red, White and Blue’ to a positive start to Part 2 of NPL1 Victoria Season 2023.

We stand, we play and we battle together... because we are WARRIORS!
