North Geelong Warriors

Thanks Ando!

“GO ANDO GO”… something we have heard on the Elcho Park terraces since 2011 and synonymous particularly when the team are searching for the winner in a tight match. However, like all good things they eventually come to an end. Today we pay tribute to one of the best club people you’ll ever meet.

Michael Anderson was recruited to North Geelong by (coach at the time ) Ante Skoko at the mid-way mark of the 2011 season to help address a need for the energetic and youthful senior team to finish the chances being created. At the time the team was sitting rock bottom of State League 1 and heading into a match against the more favoured Altona Magic. With the match level at 1-1 Ando received a ball and turned his opponent at pace to finish strongly and give the team and club the lift it needed. He went on to score 10 more in half a season leading the line to lift the team to 6th at season’s end.

An immediate fan favourite, he had the fans in the stands buzzing from his energy and pace. But, it is his loyalty and passion for the club that drew him to our hearts and we didn’t only have Michael we embrace, the entire family with brother Nicholas, Sister Stephanie and father David all deeply entrenched in the club’s playing and coaching ranks.

Michael’s record at our club reads like the stuff of legends and in our book he will be as such. 2 x Golden Boot, 2 x Vic Cro Cups, 1 x Australian Croatian Champions, 3 x Geelong Pre Season (Addy) Cups along with scoring and MVP awards, Best and Fairest, 2 x Promoted to NPL1, over 240 club appearances and more than 50 goals in all competitions.

Thank you Ando for your dedication and commitment to the club, making yourself available for the team, the club, it’s players, the coaching team and most importantly the fans, who adored you.

Michael you will be sorely missed in and around the team but I’m sure you won’t be lost to the game nor the club as coaching and management opportunities are there for the taking.

Please join us in congratulating the Michael on a brilliant North Geelong and Footballing career.
