North Geelong Warriors

Tell the Geelong Council we need help!

A important message to all North Geelong Warriors FC players, members and supporters.

Our volunteers have worked day and night to put on a great 2022 football season. But now our club needs support from the Geelong Council around pitch and ground maintenance so more of the Geelong community can experience and enjoy more football more often.

Upcoming Council meeting

On Tuesday evening (27/9/22) at the City of Greater Geelong Council meeting, Cr Eddy Kontelj will be moving the Notice of Motion (NOM) below and requesting Councillors support and approve immediate financial support to the North Geelong Warriors Footbal Club, and also to consider options available to Council for ongoing financial support of the North Geelong Warriors Football Club.

Notice of Motion:
That Council:

  1. Approve the immediate provision of financial support to the North Geelong
    Warriors Football Club with the amount of $47,000 for the specific purpose of pitch and ground maintenance, funded through savings to be identified by the Chief Executive Officer in the 22/23 budget. The $47,000 represents 50% of the costs to maintain the 3 pitches for 6 months, which will be equally contributed to by the North Geelong Warriors Football Club;
  2. Via the Chief Executive Officer, be provided timely evidence of the expenditure of such funds as specified in point 1, by 31 December 2022; and
  3. Instruct the Chief Executive Officer to engage with the North Geelong Warriors Football Club to review its financial viability and provide a report to
Council by March 2023 on options available to Council for ongoing financial
support of the Club referencing Council’s Fair Play Strategy which relates to
provision, development and subsidy of outdoor recreation reserves on
    Council owned and/or managed land.

For this above motion to be successful, it will require supporting votes from the majority of Councillors on the night.

Dear Councillors,

We seek your support to move Cr. Kontelj’s Notice of Motion to provide immediate financial assistance to the North Geelong Warriors Football Club established in 1967. The club operates from land not owned or managed by council, self-funded for the past 36 years.  The club has built a substantial facility including 3 playing pitches, club rooms, female friendly change rooms, spectator grandstand and sports lighting to each pitch.

The club is a large and loyal community member with players and members from every ward of Geelong.  The club is a non-profit organisation providing a significant contribution to the health and well-being of the community through access to recreational sport.  We ask to be supported as all sporting clubs are to continue to operate to a standard as the clubs we compete against.

Support fairness and equity for all clubs and support Cr. Kontelj’s motion.

With best regards,
