NEWS – Warriors Women hosted St Albans Dinamo in ‘sister club’ pre-season hitout at Elcho Park

THE FEMALE section of the North Geelong Warriors hosted sister club St Albans Dinamo in a valuable pre-season hitout played under ideal conditions at Elcho Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors’ U16s defeated the Dinamo U16s 3-2 scorers with Grace Spehar securing a brace and Olivia Hercegchipping in with a goal herself.

The Senior Women’s team also came out on top against the Dinamo Senior Women’s team winning by a similarly narrow margin with Lara Heric and Maeve McKenna the scorers in the 2-1 triumph.

After the game, North Geelong Senior Women’s coach Ivan Herceg (pictured above) said it was the ideal hitout ahead of the new season and paid tribute to the St Albans Dinamo women’s team for making the short trip down the highway to Elcho Park.

“It was a great hit out as part of our preseason campaign, leading up to our debut in the statewide Nike Cup in a couple of weeks’ time”, he said.

“It was a competitive game, very tight for long periods of time and honestly could have gone either way,” said Herceg.

“Dinamo are a great team who will play in State One this year and we always have a good competitive game with them. In the end, in warm conditions we prevailed with two quality goals.

“A big ‘thank you’ to Dinamo’s Rob Rubinich and to the girls for making themselves available for today’s friendly,” concluded Herceg.
