North Geelong Warriors

NEWS – Three wins out of four matches the end washup from the Junior Boys’ NPL Round 4 clash against Geelong SC on Sunday

NORTH Geelong’s Junior NPL Boys made the short trek to nearby Norlane to take on Geelong SC in Sunday’s ‘Geelong Derby’ at Stead Park and came away with three wins and an honourable loss.

The U14s celebrate their 2-0 win against Geelong SC at Stead Park on Sunday

Playing in rather warm and humid conditions, the U13s, U14s, U15s and U16s took to the pitch to fight for the three points as well as local bragging rights.

THE U13s were guided by newly appointed coach Colin Paton and managed to defeat Geelong with a scoreline of 3-1.

It was a great team effort with every player contributing and they stuck to our game plan. The goals were scored by Henry Monchin, Jasper Paton and Karl Leban,” said coach Colin after the game.

We welcome Colin into the coaching family at Elcho Park and wish him and the U13 boys all the best for the season.

THE U14s won 2-0 with Cruz Rothengatter and Daniel Gnjec scoring one apiece to ensure the young Warriors took all three points against their Lions’ counterparts.

“We dominated possession and created a lot of chances in the second half,” said a very happy coach Ante Stosic after the game.

“It was a great game from Daniel Gnjec with strong support from Zach Stosic in the midfield and Patrick Wall on the wing,” he added.

THE U15s also recorded all three points by the narrowest of margins, triumphing 1-0 over Geelong SC.

It was a tight and scrappy first half with plenty of possession for North but few clearcut chances created.

“The second half saw us make better use of the possession. Some great wing play from Alex Moorfoot and a smart finish from Noa Skoko put us 1-0 after the break,” said assistant coach James Ramage.

“Despite creating more chances in the second half, the boys saw out a hard fought 1-0 win in the hot conditions,” he added.

THE U16s recorded a 3-1 loss to the Lions, which was a very positive reaction after last week’s heavy loss.

The only goal for the Warriors was scored by Alex Moorfoot, who was backing up for another game after playing in the U15s.

According to coach Craig Filer, an interesting side note to the game was the incredible fact that of the 11 players who started, seven were actual U15s eligible players.

Tristan Harris’ performance in the midfield provided a series of opportunities, with more than 12 shots at goal, however the end product wasn’t clinical enough.

“It was a great support from our U15s who were stepping up, as well as the overall step-up in performance from the squad’s 2005 born lads,” added assistant coach Josip Zilic.
