North Geelong Warriors is saddened to announce the resignation of it’s Men’s team Head Coach, Stuart Begg.

Stuart’s four years at North Geelong in a coaching capacity to date have been by and large a major success. Working with youth teams and advancing himself to the senior team to take the side to promotion in a successful 2022 in NPL2.

Stuart commented, “I have resigned and North Geelong have reluctantly accepted, I am taking a break and I will re-evaluate where my future ambitions lie and I may return to the club in some aspect”.
Stuart continued, “I want to thank the committee, supporters, coaches and players for the last four years, it’s been an amazing journey and some of the best moments in my footballing career so far. North Geelong have an amazing culture and community, and I have forged some great friendships and coached some amazing players during the 4 years. The club is in good hands and I wish them the best for the 2023 season. However for now I look forward in seeing what the future holds.”

North Geelong’s outgoing Director of Football Josip Zilic added, “I have a feeling of immense pride and sadness at the same time. I was influential in bringing ‘Beggsy’ to the club. Stu was always going to be a person that we wanted to grow into the role that he eventually took on and I personally, along with the club committee collectively wish for Stu to remain with us in some way”. Zilic added, We will see what the future holds, as Stuart’s attributes and qualities are not something any organisation would want to relinquish easily”.

Club President Tom Trupkovic added, “we will always hold Stu in high regard and we can’t stress enough the respect and admiration we have for the work he has done and the person that he is, wishing him all the best in whatever decision he makes going forward. We do sincerely hope we can continue working with him in some capacity”. Trupkovic added, “please join us in thanking and respecting Stuart for the effort and outcomes he has brought to the club over his time as head coach”.

Josip Zilic has confirmed that the first team will be in caretaker mode with Assistant Coach Tomi Gavran taking the helm, whilst the club goes through a process and considers the options to direct the season ahead of them.
