THE OPENING round of the Junior Boys’ NPL competition kicked off on Sunday with the Warriors hosting sister club Melbourne Knights at a windswept Elcho Park.

Overall, the Young Warriors came out very much on top recording a stunning three wins and one loss in total from their four games!

It was the UNDER 13s that kicked off the day in style recording an emphatic 5-0 drubbing of the Knights with Tobias Servin opening the scoring in the first minute!

Liam Patterson doubled the lead on 11 minutes before securing his brace with a goal in the 24th minute to make it 3-0 to the Warriors.

Karl Leban scored a miraculous goal from the corner in the 43rd minute before Patterson ensured a first round hat-trick with the Warriors’ fifth and final goal in the 48th minute to round out the 5-0 rout.

According to assistant coach Joe Madunic, it was a great team effort.

THE UNDER 14s also recorded a significant victory over a tough Melbourne Knights outfit, scoring two goals either side of the break and managing to also keep a clean sheet.

Patrick Wall scored a double while Marcus Peretin and Luka Didulica scored one apiece.

According to a very pleased coach Ante Stosic, it was a great performance with the midfield dominating the game. The side created a lot of chances and although it was a fantastic team performance, three players clearly shone on the day. They included Zach Stosic, Luka Didulica and Marcus Peretin.

IT WAS YET another great all round team performance from the UNDER 15s who replicated the Under 13s’ result and came away from their clash with the Knights 5-0 victors.

Alex Moorfoot opened the scoring in the 10th minute. The Young Warriors had to wait until later in the half to find the net again, but once they did the floodgates were well and truly opened.

Ryan Neagle doubled the Warriors’ lead in the 40th minute, before Noa Skoko secured a brace with two quick goals in the 42nd and 46th minutes.

Noah Ivanciv put the icing on the cake in the 68th minute to round out the scoring to 5-0

UNFORTUNATELY, the only team to not taste victory on the opening day were the UNDER 16s who lost 0-7 to a Knights team that has won their league two years in a row.

The Young Warriors started off composed against the highly fancied Knights U16s, but dropped their collective heads after conceding the first goal around.

This signalled the start of a bleak 13 minute period which saw the visitors pile on five goals in the first half.

The boys dominated large portions of the second half but just couldn’t convert their chances, including a missed penalty. They copped two further goals late on to add salt to the wounds.

Nonetheless, the lads did come out after the break and improved significantly, which will give the coaching staff of Craig Filer and Josip Zilic something to work on over the next few weeks.
