NORTH Geelong Warriors hosted traditional NPL heavyweights Green Gully at Elcho Park on Sunday and we ended up with a win, a draw and two losses by day’s end.
THE U/13’s bounced back from their humiliating defeat last week to George Cross to dish out the same treatment to the other Maltese club from Melbourne’s West, running out 4-0 winners.
Tobias Servin scored a brace, while Alexander Giorgio and Gianlucca Sozzi found the back of the net on one occasion each.
It was a great team effort, the energy and intensity was high with plenty of chances created by the youngest Warriors’ NPL Juniors team.
THE Under 14s, unfortunately, lost 3-2 in their clash with Green Gully with both Luka Didulica and Arron Kalic scoring a goal apiece.
According to U14s coach Ante Stosic, it was a close game all day.
“A few decisions didn’t go our way but the boys will learn a lot from this game,” he said
IN an exciting U15s game, a spirited second half comeback by North saw the Warriors go in front thanks to goals by Noah Ivanciv and Luke Zivcic.
The boys worked tirelessly in the heat and had a chance to close out the game, but Gully grabbed a last minute equaliser to finish the game at 2-2.
A special mention to both Oscar Cosic and Daniel Gnjec from the U14s, for stepping up to help out the U15s.
THE U16s recorded a 9-2 loss, largely due to a disappointing first half performance which saw them down 6-1 at the break.
According to assistant coach Josip Zilic, the lads fought back and dominated the second half.
“Unfortunately, Green Gully was too composed and managed the game well,” he said.
“Noa Skoko and Noah Pitout were the scorers on the day, while a special thanks to Skoko and Alexander Moorfoot for stepping up from the U15s.
U16s coach Craig Filer will be away this week as he sits his B Licence course in Melbourne. We wish him all the best for the course!
Next week, the Warriors will make the short trip to Stead Park to take on Geelong SC in the highly anticipated local derbies.
