North Geelong Warriors

Over 100 female Warriors registered for the 2019 season

As we kick off the start of the local competition in Geelong  this weekend, we celebrate the return of the North Geelong Warriors to the Senior Women’s competition in the Geelong Region.

After a lengthy absence, the club has acknowledged the development and progression of the game in the junior ranks and made it a priority to enter a senior outfit for Season 2019.

The club has a long and very proud history of supporting female football, both at a senior, and at junior level.

The last official competition the club participated in was back in 2016,  in Football Victoria’s State League Division 2 where they finished in 6th position overall. The highlight for the squad was winning the State League Division 2 title back in 2013, finishing with 42 points and beating Keilor by one point overall.  The club went on to compete in the highest division in Victoria in 2015 finishing 3rd overall with 25 points.

The future is looking very bright with the talent that we have playing at the club, both at senior and junior levels. Our junior girls participation this year has surpassed 100 registrations!

We have two senior women’s squads, an under 14’s, 12’s, 11’s, three under 9’s and two under 7’a squads at the club this year.

We spoke with Women’s Football Operations manager, Ivan Herceg. “We are a club that supports and encourages our girls to improve and express themselves in a fun environment on the field.”

“We are blessed to have wonderful support at Club Board Level, with President John Didulica, and our exclusive Women’s Football Board Member, Maria Spehar.”

“The club has engaged with experienced coaches at all age levels who are qualified and have had enormous success development talented female players.”

The Women’s footballing department is made up of the following people:

  • Board Members: Maria Spehar (Womens/Girls)
  • Football Operations Manager: Ivan Herceg
  • Coaching Staff: Peter Lockhart, Frank Simovic and Ivan Herceg.

We have created a positive culture with some great coaches and operational support people.

We thank them personally for a wonderful pre-season which started back in January and wish them all well for the upcoming games this weekend.

Our Senior Women’s Division 1 side will face last year Champions, in Geelong Rangers at Elcho Park at 2:30pm on Pitch 2.

It will  be a fantastic scene as Elcho Park welcomes back Senior Women’s football once again.

Once again good luck to all of our girls teams on the weekend. Get down there and support your club.
